Simplify payments with our GoCardless integration! This guide walks you through connecting your account, mapping customers, and setting up auto-reconciliation in Mimo. With this integration, Direct Debit payments are automated, giving your customers a seamless experience without requiring new mandates.

Setting Up in Xero
Create the Mimo branding theme in Xero
Log in to Xero and navigate to Invoice Settings. Create a new branding theme by either copying an existing one or starting from scratch, and name it something like “Mimo” or “Mimo Direct Debit.” Ensure that GoCardless is not set as a payment service for this theme. To remove GoCardless as a payment method, go to Edit > Payment Method, highlight the text for GoCardless, delete it, and leave the field empty. Once complete, click Save, and you’re ready to proceed.
Setting Up in Mimo
Connect your GoCardless account in Mimo
In Mimo, go to the Get Paid tab and click Set up Get Paid to begin. Link your GoCardless account and use the pre-filled Mimo balance account for seamless auto-reconciliation. You’ll then be redirected to GoCardless to sign in and complete the connection.
Configure the Xero branding theme
Once your GoCardless account is connected, configure Mimo with the Xero branding theme. If the Mimo branding theme hasn’t been set up in Xero, you’ll receive step-by-step instructions to complete this process.
Map GoCardless customers to Xero customers
Next, map your GoCardless customers to your Xero customers to enable automatic invoice collection. GoCardless customers will appear on the left and Xero customers on the right. We recommend mapping all customers, as Mimo only processes invoices using the Mimo branding theme, ensuring no risk of duplicate payments.
Setup account mapping for auto-reconciliation
To enable auto-reconciliation for GoCardless Direct Debit payments in Mimo, map your accounts and suppliers. This includes setting up your bank account, bank fees, and account for chargebacks. Once completed, your Mimo setup is ready to go!
Finishing Setup in Xero
Full customer switch to Mimo’s GoCardless integration
If you want to make a full switch for all customers, you can set the Mimo branding theme as the default in Xero. By doing this, Mimo will automatically schedule payments for all invoices with mapped mandates using the default theme. To set this up, navigate to Customers, select Edit Sales Default, and choose the Mimo branding theme as the default. This ensures a seamless transition for all customers to the new integration.
Partial customer rollout to Mimo’s GoCardless integration
If you prefer not to switch all customers to the integration but instead set it up for a few selected customers, you can do so by updating the branding theme in Xero and assign the Mimo branding theme to specific customers or invoices. To do this, navigate to Customers, select the desired customers, or apply the theme directly to invoices. Assign the Mimo branding theme as the option for those selections. This allows payments to be scheduled only for invoices with mapped mandates using the Mimo branding theme.
Editing GoCardless customer settings
In the Customers tab in Mimo, the Payment Method column shows which customers are set up with Direct Debit. Select a customer and click Direct Debit to activate, deactivate, invite them to set up GoCardless, or map existing GoCardless details if needed. For multiple updates, go to Settings > Integrations > GoCardless Settings and select Map Customers, repeating the process from the initial setup.
Will customers notice the switch?
Customers will not notice any changes when Mimo takes over managing Direct Debits via GoCardless. The process remains the same for them, while you benefit from having everything centralised in the Mimo platform.
