What happens if a payment fails due to insufficient funds?

To enhance your payment experience in Mimo, we’ve introduced a feature that helps you catch and resolve payment failures caused by insufficient funds before they become permanent. This is especially useful when using open banking, where payment failures can occur outside Mimo’s direct control.

How does this feature work?

Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to manage payment failures due to insufficient funds:

Pending Payments:

If a scheduled payment or bank transfer fails due to insufficient funds, it will appear in the “Pending” tab on your Inbox page in Mimo.

These pending payments can be “revived” until midnight UK time on the day they fail.

Reviving a Failed Payment:

You have several options to revive a failed payment:

Wire the money from your house bank (recommended): This is the most reliable method.

Make a new open banking transfer: If you prefer to use open banking, you can attempt another transfer.

Pay from your existing Mimo balance: If you have sufficient funds in your Mimo balance, you can use these to cover the failed payment.

Any incoming funds received in your Mimo balance account will first cover payments that failed due to insufficient funds before being applied as a top-up to your account.

Permanently Failed Payments:

If the required funds are not received by midnight UK time on the day of the payment failure, the payment will be considered permanently failed.

You can still initiate the payment again directly from the “Inbox” tab.

Why is this feature important?

This feature is handy for users who prefer to pay from their house bank via Mimo. While open banking is convenient, it may sometimes result in payment failures beyond Mimo’s direct control. We aim to reduce inconvenience and ensure a smoother payment experience by catching these issues early.

What should I do if I experience a payment failure?

If you encounter a payment failure, check the “Pending” tab on your Inbox page to see your payment status. Follow the steps above to revive the payment before the end of the day. If you have any questions or need assistance, please contact our support team at [email protected].
